Rodolphe Loubatière and Sébastien Ammann met for the first time in 2003 at the AMR
music center (Geneva, Switzerland) when they started working together on a project
around Charles Mingus’music. The affinity that grew between them encouraged them
to continue their collaboration.
The idea of forming a trio naturally arose when they met Manu Hagmann, a wellknown
Genevese bassist. The trio got to know each other by working on jazz standards
but the will to compose and play their original music was rapidly felt.
After the success of four consecutive concerts at the AMR jazz club, the group recorded
a maxi cd called "Orange" and is currently working on original compositions for their
next album. Thanks to the diverse musical backrounds of its musicians, the Ammann
trio has created a fresh and original sound.
sébastien ammann
Born in Geneva in 1981, Sébastien Ammann started his classical piano studies at the
age of seven. At the age of fifteen he met an Uruguayan teacher who introduced him to
jazz. A few years later, in 2001, Sébastien Ammann was accepted at the professionnal
jazz school in Geneva (AMR/CPM) in the class of Mr. Michel Bastet.
The masterclasses organised by the school enabled him to meet international
musicians such as Jerry Bergonzi, Rich Perry and Fred Hersch.
In April 2003, Sébastien Ammann was the winner of a scholarship from the Friedl Wald
Foundation in Zürich (Switzerland). During the summer of 2004, he enroled for an
intensive two week jazz programe in Siena (Italy) during which he was able to study
with musicians such as Stefano Battaglia, Franco D’Andrea, Furio Di Castri and Stefano
Zenni.
From June to September 2006, he lived in New York City where he followed an
intensive jazz program (SIM, School for Improvised Music) with Ralph Alessi, Tim
Berne, Andy Milne, Tyshawn Sorey, Peter Epstein, Mark Elias, Drew Gress and Jim
Black. His stay in New York City enabled him to also study privately with Vijay Iyer,
Sylvie Courvoisier and Edna Golandsky.
Being a jazz and improvised music fan, Sébastien Ammann takes part in numerous
projects such as a sextet (Scemxis), a quintet (Hobo 5tet) celabrating the music of
Charles Mingus and a vocal quartet (Les Improdisiaques) founded by Mr. Jacques
Siron.
rodolphe loubatière
Born and raised in Dijon (France), Rodolphe Loubatière spent eight years studying the
drums at the Agostini School with Jacques-François Justowiak. He is an active
member of the "Collectif Q" in which he meets Geoffroy De Masure, the Belmondo
brothers and Tony Pagano.
The next step of his musical studies took him to the Villeurbanne School of Music
(Lyon, France) from which he obtained a DEM (Diplôme d’Etudes Musicales). He then
met musicians from Lyon and became a member of the "Grolektif" which enabled him
to work with Andy Emler, Jean-Charles Richard and to meet people like Médéric
Collignon and Franck Agulhon.
His musical experiences lead him to Geneva where he studies with Jacques Siron and
his’s high musicianship enables him to quickely play with Swiss musicians.
All through these years, Rodolphe has always been interested in being the initiator of
different groups ranging from the duo to the double quartet or the brass band. At the
moment he regularly plays with the "RYR" trio (improvised music) and the "Grolektif".
manu hagmann
Born in Geneva and raised in a jazz impregnated family universe, Manu Hagmann has
been interested at a very young age to the role of the bass in music.
After a few years of studying music basics at the "Conservatoire Populaire de Musique"
(Geneva), he studied bass guitar with Mr. Guy Maxwell. He then played bass in a funkrock
band for over ten years. It was during that period, when he was asked to join a
traditional jazz band run by his father, that he began studying the double-bass as an
autodidacte.
Being very intersted in both instruments and feeling an attraction to improvised music,
he gained experience by working in a number of different musical contexts ranging
from classical acoustic jazz to electric music.
